Colour Imaging, Graphics and Appearance Management

Colour Imaging, Graphics and Appearance Management Research Group integrates research activities in colour imaging, measurement and appearance with applications of research to manufacturing and design problems.

Research in the group has led directly to new internationally accepted colour-difference equations (CIEDE2000) and new colour-appearance models (CIECAM02) that have become international standards.

A major body of work has also been carried out to explore the role of colour technology in the design process. This includes colour selection and on-screen simulation, colour forecasting and methods to develop scales for measuring colour emotion and colour semiotics.

A substantial proportion of the research is conducted with and funded by industrial partners (e.g. Samsung, LG, Unilever, Proctor and Gamble, Apple and Xerox).
