Healthcare materials

Research in this area is conducted within the Clothworkers Centre for Textile Materials Innovation for Healthcare (CCTMIH), whose strategy is to develop new enabling technologies based on advances in textile science and engineering that responds directly to the needs of patients, nurses and clinicians. This involves identifying specific challenges in wound management, blood filtration, infection control, continence management and related areas where fibre or fabric components are fundamental to the overall product performance and user acceptance.

To achieve its goals, the CCTMIH works closely with external patient and public-user groups, the NHS and manufacturers of healthcare products to ensure research challenges are properly defined, minimising the risk of late stage failure.
